Our Mission

To advance educational development and access of those in need through the collection and redistribution of academic resources and facilitation of educational programs.

What We Do

Step 1: Collection. We run book and school supply drives in order to acquire resources from the local community that are no longer being used.
Step 2: Organization. We organize the resources we receive in order to plan targeted donations that fulfill the expressed needs of our donation recipients.
Step 3: Redistribution. We work to identify and address community-need by meeting our community partners where they are and collaborating with them to provide targeted donations and build sustainable, long-term organizational relationships.

Inspiration

The Jaiswal Family founded My Book Wish in Naperville, Illinois in May of 2015 after recognizing how many of their books were no longer in use despite being in great condition. After donating their own unused books, the Jaiswal Family turned to the local community and found tremendous support, building a grassroots network under President Siddharth Jaiswal.

In 2017, under the new leadership of President Rohan Jaiswal and Co-Presidents Elijah Darden and Namish Kaistha, the count of books redistributed to those in need rose to 4,000. The organization’s reach grew throughout the Chicagoland area spanning across the state of Illinois.

Since 2021, the organization has grown nationwide, with chapters opening in Missouri, New Jersey, Michigan, Maryland, and Pennsylvania under the respective leadership of Elijah Darden, Leah Chan, Daaniyah Mirza, Rohan Jaiswal, and Nayoon Lee. My Book Wish was officially granted federal income tax exemption under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501(c)(3) in 2023, and in 2024, hit a milestone of 10,000 books donated.
